Peels

What is a chemical peel?
This treatment involves removing layers of the skin with fruit acids -- usually alpha hydroxy acids, allowing healthier skin to form. Peels are classified as superficial, medium, or deep, depending on the chemical and the length of skin exposure time.

Why do people have chemical peels?
Peels effectively help to reduce the depth of surface lines, smooth out rough skin texture, and help fade brown spots. Removing the top layer of skin (where most visible wrinkles are found) allows healthier skin to grow, giving a smooth texture to the skin and a glowing and radiant appearance.

Does it help with acne?
Yes, peels assist in drying out acne, and improve skin blemishes. This treatment is often used in conjunction with topical medications for acne.

Which peels do you use at Balensi's Institute of skin care?
Our aestheticians apply superficial to medium-depth peels. Various peels are available depending on your skin type and sensitivity. Our staff can advise which peel is best for you. Chemical peels can be combined with microdermabrasion for superior results.

How much downtime is expected with a peel?
With superficial peels there is little downtime. Certain peels can be done on your lunch hour and you may return to work immediately afterward; however, you may experience some redness for 6 to 8 hours.

When will my skin begin peeling and how long will it last?
Everyone's experience is different, but most see flaking by day 2 or 3 following the treatment. With superficial peels, only light to medium exfoliation is expected.

Is the peel painful?
Peels are slightly irritating. You may experience mild burning and stinging, which is temporary.

Can pregnant women receive a peel?
No, it is not recommended. However an antioxidant facial will leave the skin with a healthy look that lasts seven to ten days. This facial is ideal one to two days before a special event.

What do I do before a peel?
Do not go to a tanning booth or sun bathe for at least 3 weeks before a treatment. Stop Retin-A or Renova for 1 week before the peel.

What do I do after a peel?
Follow the instructions on the post treatment instruction sheet you'll receive. Avoid direct sunlight and tanning booths. Our aesthetician will recommend skin care products that will maximize the benefits to your skin.

Microdermabrasion

What is Microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion is a new technology using crystals under pressure to remove dead or damaged layers of skin. The crystals and skin debris are then vacuumed away, resulting in a smoother, less wrinkled skin.
What are the abrasive particles and are they reused?
The particles are aluminum oxide, which are clinically safe. The suctioned particles are not reused and are collected in disposable waste canisters.

Is Microdermabrasion helpful in acne and oily skin patients?
Microdermabrasion will reduce oiliness and reduce the appearance of large pores. This technique will clean out clogged pores and open comedones. It is not recommended that Microdermabrasion be used concomitantly with Renova or Retin A, due to skin sensitivity.

Is Microdermabrasion helpful in sun-damage and pigmented skin?
Yes. Sun-damaged skin will see gradual improvement in texture and lightening of superficial pigments.

Is more than one treatment necessary?
One treatment will improve your skin's smoothness; however, a series of treatments will maximize the effect.

How often should the treatments be done?
They can be scheduled every 2 to 4 weeks, depending on the indications and skin sensitivity.

Is Microdermabrasion painful?
No.

Can it be combined with chemical peels?
Yes. This is commonly done, and the two procedures together have a complimentary effect.

Are there any patients who should not use Microdermabrasion?
Yes. Patients with Rosacea or dilated capillaries (telangiectasia) should be cautious using Microdermabrasion. Patients with sunburn should delay treatment.

What preparations should be done prior to Microdermabrasion?
Stop all skin care products, Retin A, and Renova several days prior to treatment. Read the information sheet and sign the consent form.

What about special care after the treatment?
Advanced home care healing products should be used to enhance and maintain your office treatment results.

What should I do after Microdermabrasion?
Use sunscreens and avoid direct sunlight. Also, avoid Retin A and Renova for three to four days. You may use makeup after treatment.

What will my skin look like after a treatment?
The skin will have a warm, healthy glow. You may have a slight pinkness, but the pinkness will diminish over the next 24 hours.

Airbrush Tanning

How good are the results of a SunFX spray tan?
SunFX spray tans create a beautifully natural looking tan on virtually all skin types. Because it is applied in a controlled environment, by a trained professional, SunFX spray tans typically produce results far superior to sun and/or solarium exposure. It is almost impossible to tell a SunFX tan from a natural tan.

How long does a SunFX spray tan take?
A full body spray tan will take no longer than 5 minutes, including drying time. Compare this to the old air-brush systems that can take as long as 20 minutes and it is easy to see why more people are choosing SunFX spray tans.

How should I prepare for my SunFX spray on tan?
It is important to thoroughly exfoliate your entire body prior to receiving your SunFX spray tan. For the best results we recommend that you cleanse and exfoliate with our gorgeous SunFX Body Polish. This will remove any dead skin cells that would otherwise result in the premature fading of your SunFX tan. Ideally you should try to exfoliate the night before your tanning appointment. Try to avoid wearing too much makeup to your appointment. Moisturizers and deodorants can reduce the effectiveness of the tanning solution so you should avoided these where possible.

What should I wear to the spa?
Although you will leave feeling dry after your application, it is best to wear loose fitting, dark colored clothing. Typically SunFX tanning solutions will not stain clothing, and any rub off will wash out easily. However staining has been known to occur on some lighter leathers, acrylic or other sensitive fabrics, so avoid wearing these on the day of your appointment.

What if anything should I avoid after receiving my SunFX tan?
Your SunFX spray tan will continue to develop for 2 - 3 hours after application. However for best results, it is advisable that you avoid the following activities for at least 5 hours after receiving your spray on tan:
• Water
• Saunas/Spas
• Physical Exercise/Sweating
• Swimming
• Tight Fitting Clothing

How long will my SunFX spray tan last?
Whilst results can vary depending on the individual and the activities they undertake, most people can expect their SunFX tan to last for somewhere between 5 to 7 days. Depending on your skin type and pre-tan preparation you could still be enjoying a healthy, natural looking tan up to 10 days after application. The life of your tan can of course be greatly extended by the use of our unique SunFX tan extenders as explained below.

How can I extend the life of my tan?
Avoiding excessive exposure to water and obviously any form of exfoliation will help to extend the life of your SunFX spray tan. But your tan can be further extended by the use of SunFX Body Lotion Tan Extender.

Are SunFX Solutions safe to use?
Our exclusive SunFX solutions are regarded as some of the finest in the world. The unique combination of natural bronzers, highly purified water (aqua) and the approved cosmetic tanning agent DHA produce a truly remarkable tanning result. You can be assured that our tanning solutions contain no alcohol, oils, perfumes, parabens or artificial preservatives. Most salons will have on hand nose and ear plugs as well as eye protection should you decide to use these items.

Are SunFX spray tans suitable for pregnant women?
Although our tanning solutions are 100% all natural we do not recommend that you receive a SunFX spray tan whilst pregnant. A more suitable alternative during pregnancy would be to use our Summers Secret tan builder in conjunction with our tan extenders.

Are SunFX tanning solutions really all natural?
Yes, and they have been since 1999. In that year, after extensive research and numerous trials, we released our new all natural spray tanning solutions, which proved to be an instant worldwide hit. Today we at SunFX continue to produce 100% all natural tanning solutions, making our solutions quite unique in the worldwide spray tanning market. Our range has now grown to 10, making ours the largest range of tanning solutions in the world. Our tanning solutions contain no alcohols, perfumes, oils, parabens or artificial preservatives. We source only the best all natural ingredients in addition to purifying our own water to ensure that our solutions remain the purest in the world. In addition to this, the DHA used in our SunFX range of solutions has the highest purity rating in the world. So as you can see, SunFX tanning solutions are the only choice for health concious consumers.

Do I still need to apply sunscreen after my SunFX spray on tan?
Yes you do. SunFX tanning solutions do not provide any useful protection against harmful UV rays. We recommend that you apply an approved SPF 30+ sunscreen at least 15 minutes prior to sun exposure, with additional applications every 30 minutes or so, depending on your level of activity, and exposure to water.

Why is the SunFX system so much better than other systems?
The SunFX spray tanning system is the only professional built spray tanning system for spas. Featuring the award winning Pro Spray Applicator, our systems allow your therapist to precisely control the amount of solution that is applied to each part of your body, giving you an even, natural looking tan. Combine this with our huge range of tanning solutions and it's easy to see why SunFX is the only choice for professional spray on tans.
